Mardi Gras

2012.2.21 Tue

February is well known for Valentine's Day but another  famous celebration is Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday in English. From the New Year until this day, usually about 6 weeks, catholics, and sometimes others, will give up something. This time is called Lent. Sometimes people give up smoking or eating certain foods but other times, they give up shopping or other bad vices. Mardi Gras is the celebration that we were able to hold off temptation. If you have the chance, visit New Orleans in the US or Rio de Janerio in Brazil to see these festivals in action. Happy travels!

この時期ニューオリンズでは、世界3大カーニバルの一つマルディグラが開かれています。

Valentine’s Day

2012.2.9 Thu

Valentine's Day at elementary schools is very cute. Nowadays, most of the children buy packs of valentines cards to hand out to their classmates. Usually these cards are of their favorite cartoon characters and have funny puns written on them. To get ready for these, the teachers usually have the children make their own mailbox to receive their cards. After it's finished and everyone hands out their cards, they take them home to read and show family. Happy Valentine's day!

Cupid

2012.2.6 Mon

Cupid, from Roman mythology, is seen with wings, a bow, and a quiver of arrows. Cupid can cause anyone to fall in love by hitting them with one of his golden tipped arrows.

Nowadays, Cupid is usually seen as the chubby little boy with wings shooting the unexpected and making them love in love. So if any of your single friends are acting a little strange, maybe they were hit with one of Cupid's arrows. Happy Valentine's Day!
