Hanukkah

2011.12.5 Mon

Another beautiful tradition in the month of December is the Jewish Festival of Lights. In the olden days, the Jewish people rebelled against King Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The people retreated to their temple and purified it. Then, they lit the wicks of the menorahs which miraculously burned for eight days; even though, there was only enough sacred oil for one day.
Although, it varies every year; this year, from the sunset of the 20th to the 28th, a candle will be lit each night in celebration. There will, also, be singing, praying, eating special foods, playing games, and giving and receiving Hanukkah gelt or money. Happy Hanukkah.

Merry Christmas! I hope everyone's had a wonderful year. It's been very busy lately here at the kindergarten. Make sure to bundle up as it's getting colder everyday.

We're really excited about Christmas in our classes. The children have been talking about it almost as soon as Halloween was over. I was a bit surprised at first, but the children's joy has put me in the holiday spirit. We're going to try and learn a few Christmas carols, decorate for Christmas, and do a Christmas craft or two. Happy Holidays!
